New Appointments

New appointments last approximately 30 to 40 minutes depending on the complexity of the case.

Dr Jayaseelan will go through the detailed history of your condition and your medical history. Please bring your list of medication and any relevant letters with you. It can also be helpful if you bring someone with you, especially if you have been having problems with your memory or seizures.

If appropriate, Dr Jayaseelan will perform a detailed neurological examination to help determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

At the end of the consultation, Dr Jayaseelan will formulate a management plan in conjunction with you and suggest any appropriate further investigations that may be needed to confirm the final diagnosis. After the consultation, you and your GP will receive a comprehensive clinic letter detailing your consultation and next management steps.

Follow Up Appointments

Follow up appointments last approximately 15 to 25 minutes. They are for patients who have been seen by Dr Jayaseelan previously to discuss the results of any investigations, determine any change in condition and evaluate the success of the management plan.

What investigations will I need?

Following your consultation with Dr Jayaseelan you may need further investigations to confirm your diagnosis. This may include blood tests, imaging or neurophysiology tests.

Examining an MRI brain scan

MRI & CT scans

Depending on your symptoms, you may need an MRI or CT scan of your brain or spinal cord. If you need a scan this will be discussed in further detail during your consultation. All scans are organised by the hospital and are charged separately.

Having an electroencephalogram (EEG) for brain activity

EEG

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is used to detect brain activity. This can aid in the diagnosis of epilepsy. If you need an EEG, it will be discussed during your consultation and if agreed you will be referred to a clinical neurophysiologist for this test.

Having a nerve conduction study and EMG to test nerves and muscles

Nerve Conduction Studies & EMG

Nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG) are used to help diagnose problems with nerves and muscles. If you require these tests it will be discussed at your consultation and if agreed you will be referred to a clinical neurophysiologist to have this test.
